Zinc; a bluish light gray, brittle metal. It belongs to the group of transition elements in the periodic table of the elements. The low boiling temperature is noteworthy. This value is a very decisive factor especially in pyrometallurgical metal production. It is hard and brittle when poured. It can be shaped at 120 °C. It is more negative than iron in the electrochemical potential series. Thus, zinc finds an important use in cathodic corrosion protection as an anode. Galvanizing is one such application.
